Krystal part deux

Of course, the above entry wasn't sent from Krystal. It WAS written there, but for some reason, I couldn't connect. (timeout errors). I was able to download a 10 meg update file for my firewall, and I logged into both my email and a fave forum. But, even though I saw no other wireless users, it seemed.........slow?

I did the 10 megs in about three minutes, smoking compared to my dialup. But, sluggish from other wi-fi spots I've been to. Maybe it is the card. The old setup had a remote B, the current a built-in G.

And, anybody with netstumbler or similar ilk could be monitoring my connection and stealing my passwords.

So, I *think* its' a good middle ground for those who can't get home-broadband, or need to pull over and send or snag a file quickly. I'd hate to be there during a busy period. And, it seems sluggish.

So, I guess its' back to hoping the neighbor will sloppily set up a wireless router...... >:)

burgers and wifi

I am coming to you live…….from Krystals’. Yes, that’s right. That bastion of goodness in a small, hot, steaming square package. That place serving stuff that tastes so good on the way in, but regrettable on the way out.

In addition to burgers, fries and a drink, you can now get high-speed, wireless internet. It’s a brave new world, but I’m not so sure I’m ready for my new laptop to stink of Cheese Krystals. Lol

How strange, among several hungry customers, I happily peck away from the safety of my vehicle. Bags of little white and red boxes in clear bags go out the door in front of me. I could actually stream video of this. Five years ago, to accomplish this, I would have needed several hundred dollars in Ham gear, or a couple grand in commercial broadcast stuff. Now, as the ‘hot’ light blinks at me, all I need is a pda, a wireless card, and a webcam.

On a more serious note, Knox County Sheriff’s member Jay Witt was seriously injured in his county vehicle last night. He remains in critical condition as I write this. Keep him in your prayers.

Til next time –

My First Blog Entry!

My First Blog Entry!

Hi,

I’ve spent the past few years writing for various publications. Magazines are interesting, but the production timelines make them impossible to be current and relevant. Books, obviously, are much worse.

Writing a column for a large e-zine (http://www.policeone.com/ , go there and get their newsletter, it’s very, very good), one might think resolves the immediacy issue, but even they can lag.

And, they have sponsors and vendors and lawyers to answer to. Plus, they don’t really appreciate when I drift off-topic.

Enter Blogger and blogging.

I can say pretty much whatever I want, whenever I want. I like that. And, no editor telling me that I am overdue on an article.

I hope that this will curb my occasional need to write, although it won’t make me anywhere near the amount of money writing for actual publishers does (or is it do?)

And, it gives people a more immediate way to hear about what I have going on…..

I am currently:

  • Spinning up a video production project. Got some GOOD stuff in the pipeline soon as I can learn Premiere, Illustrator, and get a piggyback HDD for the new laptop (Thanks, Tanyia!);

  • Working on a campaign for Sheriff;

  • Still writing for PoliceOne. Soon as they publish part four of the rad article, I’ll release part one of two on biological awareness;

  • Doing a render farm install for an Accident Reconstructionist;

  • And, four pages of stuff on my honey-do list (where DID that go, anyway???)

Many things to say, not much time tonight to say them. I will try to be a little consistent with this, but don’t expect any major miracles.
